He hasn't scored for Manchester United in the Champions League since September 2004. He hasn't scored for England in a competitive match since Euro 2004. The tongues are wagging - what's wrong with Wayne Rooney?

The 2006 World Cup will be remembered for a lot of things - Brazil's failure (unexpected), England's failure (expected), France's renaissance (unexpected), the wonderful fans and the great goals (somehow less means better).
The 2006 World Cup saw a host of great goals, including a couple on the second last day of the tournament as Schweinsteiger and Germany provided two more crackers to go with the Lahm and Frings efforts from their first game against Costa Rica.
The penalty won by Malouda was a blatant dive.
Zinedine Zidane wins the Ballon d'Or - the Golden Ball - the best player award - for the 2006 World Cup. Are you kidding me? Can someone please cut through the tripe and the hype and actually point these myopic idiots in the right direction?

Germany win 3-1, and secure 3rd place. Yawn. Apart from Oliver Kahn and Luis Figo playing their last games, this game was meaningless for football (although German fans will be sure to milk it for all its worth.

It's finally happened. Ronaldo's statement to the press after the England-Portugal match confirmed what United fans had feared all along - the Portuguese winger wants to go to Real Madrid.
England lost today despite being the better team over 120 minutes of goalless football. It's a shame to see England go out of the World Cup like this, and a lot of blame will fall on Lampard, Eriksson and Beckham.
After the 1-1 draw with South Korea, you would have bet your house against France beating Spain, much less reaching the semi-final of the 2006 World Cup. But now, thanks to the magic quartet of Zidane, Henry, Vieira and Ribery, France have one eye on Berlin.

Emotions run over as Lehmann saved the fourth penalty and sent Argentina crashing out of the 2006 World Cup. Players, team officials and match officials from both sides clashed on the sidelines, the melee supposedly started by an Argentina unused substitute.
Two men go into the Brazil vs France quarter-final at Frankfurt looking to raise the World Cup trophy for one last time in their careers. For those who think that this is about football, think again. This is about winning, this is about being champions, again.
